Why do they always say if Celtic and Rangers had the funds they would be champions, yes they'd be up there but Man Utd have been the biggest spenders in the last 10 years and haven't won the league since 2013, having the funds doesn't instantly make you champions elect

Seeding and ranking teams is what is wrong. It isn't done on merit it's done on the amount of money a club generates for UEFA.
Names should be pulled from a hat and if you end up with real, barca, bayern, and city in the same group so be it.

Even if they don’t change the qualifying rules, one way to simply even up things a little would be to remove the country protection in the Group stages. If you’re going to let in 4/5/6 English teams so be it, but don’t mollycoddle them from one another just to try and get them all through the groups.

You could also say that if the champions of these leagues faced so much as a decent championship side they'd be comfortably beaten and that a league comprised of more teams from the superior leagues and less of the likes of apoel Nicosia and maccabi Tel Aviv would be much more entertaining and merit based

Champions league should be what the title says. Top of the league, maybe possibly 2nd. But this 4th place prem teams getting in has to stop. Purely the case so that they make more money from bugger name clubs.

Nobody noticed Simon called him a bitter old tart at the beginning of the clip. No wonder he was laughing so hard it was his joke muppet. Also triggered spud fans haha well done Martin. Not even close to champions mugs

Do this:
Use the coefficient to start with, put all the domestic champions that aren't in pot 1 up one pot, then those teams are locked in their new pots and use the coefficient again to even up the number of clubs in each pot.
Edit: That way the domestic champions are rewarded and seeding isn't completely scewed by weaker domestic leagues.

In my opinion , more group qualifiers to give all clubs the same opportunities for revenue from the competition they've qualified for . It wouldn't actually create many more games through the Champions League season when you take out the initial qualifiers . Those extra few games , too , would add revenue to the competition and to the clubs , ALL of the clubs , and it would be the ones that progressed from the mini leagues that EARNED extra revenue from continuing in the competition rather than the clubs initially awarded it .

I see another way actually that the leagues could be maintained . World Cup Qualifiers for example are regional initially . For England , for example , why not have a mini qualifier league between the four English qualifiers . Same with other countries that get 4 spots . Countries that get less spots , mix them with other local regions . Scottish and Welsh clubs for example in a seperate qualifying league . Even that , though , can be limiting .
The fairest way would be to allow all countries the same number of spots . The leagues may seem and sometimes even be less competitive , but it's clear when you think about it like that that it's not just certain clubs being given advantages but revenue creating leagues .
Also look at the positions some teams have to be in ie qualifying to enter into into the group stages . Did Liverpool who came in second in the Premier League have to qualify ? How many other second placed teams across Europe DID have to qualify and how many didn't ? By the end of the qualifiers , how many second placed teams in their leagues were knocked out by the time it gets to the group stages whereas second placed in the larger leagues got a free pass to the group stages and the money spinning games and TV rights presented them ?
Does that not if you think about it naturally exclude some clubs from the extra revenue available and give preference to others ?

Simon, do some homework, chap. The reason why Celtic went through automatically is not down to a change in the ruling, it's due to Russia dropping down the UEFA coefficient ladder, thus bumping up Scotland. As such the SPL champion goes through to the Group Stage while the RUP goes into the 3rd round of qualifying.

It’s not really great for Scottish Football. It’s wonderful for Rangers and Celtic. But all it does is create greater financial disparity between the Old Firm teams and say Motherwell or Kilmarnock. Simon is right that it could down the line create more TV revenue for the SPFL… we’ll see – but a 2 horse race has only been further cemented
